If you’re looking for unique and beautiful games on the PlayStation Vita, look no further. Team Siren is working on a PlayStation Vita game that looks impressive not only for a handheld games but for video games in general. The game is called Gravity, and it is a cell-shaded adventure featuring an amnesic female protagonist that can take gravity into her own hands to find out about her past and save the future.
Sony updated their website with artwork, screenshots, and information on the game. The screenshots look beautiful (as you can see below) and the info posted sounds very interesting.
Gravity is an innovative title in which you can manipulate gravity and change your perspective in order to complete a variety of missions in many different worlds. Players can control gravity by using the gyro sensor in the Vita. It sounds like you can use the front and back panels to control the character.
Sony also boasts that the OLED screen on the PlayStation Vita will make the game’s cell-shaded visuals pop and will deliver crisp and beautiful graphics.
Impressions
Several outlets have had some hands on time with the game, and have reported back some positive things.
Siliconera sheds some light on the controls.
Press R and Kat floats freely. Players can aim where she lands by tilting the Vita and using the right analog stick to change the camera angle. Press L and gravity reappears and makes Kat fall towards the white circle. Project Gravity has specific spots for Kat to land on. Touch all of them and the game progresses.
They also explain that the game’s cutscenes are in the style of a graphic novel. You can “flip” through the cutscenes by swiping on the touch screen to turn the page. Siliconera ends their impressions by saying that Gravity (or Project Gravity as they call it) “left the biggest impression.”
IGN explains the gravity mechanic further.
Altering gravity serves more of a purpose than just getting around. Kat can change the orientation of gravity so that she tumbles towards enemies (in this case weird looking demons), building up speed and force to do a powerful kick. Using either the right analog stick or the PlayStation Vita’s built in gyroscope, players can then chain together attacks, changing Kat’s orientation on the fly.
Joystiq also got some time with Gravity, and they seemed to like it as well. The website acknowledged that the game is a niche title that probably won’t see a lot of attention when it comes out.
All in all, Gravity is an interesting title — it likely won’t grab as much press as the bigger headliners in the PS Vita’s “launch window” lineup, but it seems like a well-made and original way to show off just what that gyroscope in the Vita can do.
Still, as they say, the game looks very original and it’s just another title that takes advantage of the Vita’s unique control methods.
Gravity is said to be a “launch window” game. I know I will be anticipating the release of this beautiful game.
