Sony’s PSP2 was first shown at an event in Japan called Playstation Meeting 2011. After months of leaks and rumors, Sony finally gave official information on their next handheld, codenamed Next Generation Portable (or NGP). The name became widely used by many talking about the next PlayStation Portable. Before E3 2011, rumors started popping up about the PSP2 being called PlayStation Vita. During Sony’s E3 2011 press conference, Sony announced that the final name for their next handheld was in fact PlayStation Vita.
Feature Breakdown
Near-console quality graphics in the palm of your hand – The most noticeable new feature in Sony’s handheld are the amazing graphics. Rivaling the graphics found on Sony’s home console, the PlayStation 3, the NGP will feature graphics that are unprecedented for a handheld.
3G or WiFi only, it’s your choice – The NGP will launch in two version: WiFi only or 3G enabled. The WiFi only version will be cheaper than the 3G version. The 3G version will also work with WiFi connections. With a 3G connection, the NGP will always be connected.
LiveArea user interface – With the NGP, Sony will be ditching the XcrossMediaBar (XMB) interface that is found on PSP and PS3. In its place is something Sony calls “LiveArea”. LiveArea features icons that look like bubbles and enables a seamless online experience on the handheld.
More information will be added soon.
