At Nintendo of America’s New York press conference, Nintendo announced several exciting launch details.

  • The handheld will come out on in America on March 27th.
  • The handheld will launch at $249.99.
  • Launch colors will be aqua blue and cosmo black.
  • The system will launch with the following first party titles: Pilotwings Resort, Nintendogs + Cats, and Steel Diver.
  • In the “launch window”, Nintendo expects there to be a total of 30 3DS games out, including games from all genres.

Tired of sharing all your friend codes to play online with your DS and Wii? Worry no more! Nintendo has announced at their 3DS event in Amsterdam that the 3DS will feature only one friend code that is shared between the entire system and all your games. This makes it much easier to play against your friends online because you don’t have to have a friend code for every game. Nintendo fans have been waiting a long time for this, and it’s certainly a juicy detail to come out of the conference.

I will be reporting more news as it happens from the 3DS event today.

Nintendo3DSBlog’s Live Stream of Commentary

I wish I could tell you that I was doing some live coverage tomorrow for the event, but unfortunately I cannot. Being a full time university student has its drawbacks, and I have class tomorrow conflicting with the schedule of the conference. I may be able to get some early information, but around 9:40 or so I will have to stop. So, what better sites and blogs will actually have live content tomorrow?

  • Nintendo will have their own live video stream of the event for tomorrow on UStream. It is actually a live stream of the European event, but both events happen simultaneously, and both will likely have similar information, not counting launch details for each territory.
  • Nintendolife will be doing a live blog of the event, meaning there will text automatically updating as the news pours in. If you can’t find or view a video feed, this is probably the place to go.
  • One of my favorite 3DS sites Nintendo3DSBlog will be covering the event via a live stream of the owner talking about the events, it’s not actually video of the event, but it’s still worth noting.

I suspect the usual suspects will have some live blogs as well, but these are some smaller sites with live coverage for tomorrow.

I was reading a great Nintendo fansite Nintendolife, and I saw a post about predictions for tomorrow’s conference. I figured I would get in on it as well and write a post about it.

  • I’m predicting that in America, the 3DS will launch on March 20, 2011, and in Europe it will launch March 27, 2011 (probably more like 2 weeks after America though, realistically).
  • I think that in will launch at the price of $279 in America.
  • I think that US launch games will be similar to Japan launch games, however, America will get The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D on launch day, and I don’t think we’ll be getting the new Layton because America doesn’t even have the third one yet.
  • I suspect that the titles that cost the most will cost $45, and the cheapest titles will cost $35.
  • I think all territories will receive black and blue 3DS consoles.

As for surprises tomorrow? I have no idea. I guess Metroid isn’t looking to likely, so that probably won’t be there. I think if we see a new title by Nintendo it will be a Mario platformer. I’m hoping for New Super Mario World, personally. :)
