Personally, I think Cave Story 3D is looking better! You be the judge with these new screenshots.

If you’re not completely satisfied with the 3D version of Cave Story, there is at least some kind of solution. Although you won’t be able to play the game in full 2D, you can view the characters as 2D sprites in 3D environments. This may look a bit strange, but it’s a great way to retain a bit of the original game’s 2D charm.

I know a lot of people aren’t happy with the style of Cave Story 3D, so hopefully this pleases those people at least some what. I think there is still a chance the full 2D version will be in the game before its release in August.

The people over at Nicalis, the developer of Cave Story 3D, have put up the Bushlands theme for Cave Story 3D. You can have a listen to the mp3 here.

Gamespot featured Cave Story 3D on their “On the Spot” program yesterday. Cave Story 3D is of course the 3D (both stereoscopic and polygonal) version of the classic Cave Story. I’ve had mixed feeling about the remake for 3DS, but this video certainly looks better than some of the screenshots we’ve seen before.

The video shows the Mimiga Village and one of the first levels. How do you think the game looks? Hopefully we’ll be getting some impressions from NIS America’s Spring Premiere Event today.

If you want to play the original, you can buy it on DSiWare. Maybe it should be one of the first DSiWare games you buy on the eShop!

NIS America is having their “Spring Premiere Event” today. They will be showing off a number of already announced names, which will probably include Cave Story 3D.

They will also be announcing some new games, and we can only hope that there will be some handheld love in there. The event starts at 1 PM PDT and I will report news as I get it.

Here’s a link to the invitation with some details on the event.
